Mickey's Tavern | Our Story

The Mark of Something Special
In 2008, a three-month-old rescue puppy came home from the Nebraska Humane Society. The shelter staff had already given him a name inspired by the distinctive black marking on his side—a spot shaped unmistakably like the iconic Mickey Mouse ears. It was a fitting name for a pup who would grow up to bring a little extra magic into everyone’s life.
Part Guardian, Part Community Legend
Mickey was never just a pet; he belonged to the whole neighborhood. At home, he took his duty as protector seriously, faithfully rotating bedrooms each night so every child had their turn sleeping next to their four-legged guardian.
Beyond his front yard, Mickey became a beloved part of the neighborhood. He made daily rounds visiting neighbors, played fetch with anyone willing to throw a tennis ball, and made regular stops at a neighbor’s garage—a spot affectionately known as the “stick store,” where a curated collection of sticks was kept exclusively for him. Mickey didn’t care who you were or where you came from; if you were there, you were family.

Remembering Mickey (2008–2024)
In 2024, shortly after celebrating his 16th birthday, Mickey passed away. The outpouring of love from friends, family, and neighbors proved what we always knew: Mickey made the world a little happier and a little warmer just by being in it.
After his passing, our family received a custom piece of artwork that captured Mickey’s joyful personality, his gentle eyes, and the mark he left on all of us. That artwork became the beating heart of the Mickey’s Tavern logo.

Welcome to Mickey’s—Make Yourself at Home
Mickey believed in being wherever the people were. He loved familiar faces, shared laughs, good food, and the simple comfort of belonging. That is the exact energy we bring to Mickey’s Tavern every day.
