Mickey's Tavern

About us

Mickey’s Tavern is named in honor of a very special member of the owners of Mickey's Tavern's family—one whose paws left a lasting imprint on everyone he met. Mickey entered their home as a three-month-old rescue puppy from the Nebraska Humane Society.

The staff there had already given him his name, inspired by the distinct black marking on his side that looked unmistakably like the iconic Mickey Mouse head and ears. It was a fitting name for a dog who would grow into a true character-full of charm, heart, and a little bit of magic.

From the start, Mickey appointed himself guardian of the Mickey's owners children. He alternated sleeping spaces every night, making sure each child had their turn with their four-legged protector. Wherever the family went, Mickey followed-tail wagging, eyes bright, ready for adventure. Before long, his circle of loved ones grew beyond the family. Mickey wasn't just their dog; he became the "neighborhood dog." He visited neighbors regularly, played fetch with anyone willing to throw a tennis ball, and even "shopped" at the stick store-a garage where a neighbor kept a curated collection of sticks just for him.

His joyful spirit, gentle nature, and uncanny ability to bring people together made him larger than life. Mickey wasn't just a pet; he was a legend-part companion, part guardian, part community mascot.

In 2024, shortly after celebrating his 16th birthday, Mickey passed away. Friends, family, and neighbors reached out with messages that reaffirmed what the Mickey's owners already knew: Mickey had been one of a kind, a presence who made everyone feel a little happier, a little more at home. After his passing, the family received an art piece inspired by Mickey-an image that captured his spirit, personality, and the mark he left on the world. That artwork became the heart of Mickey's Tavern logo, a tribute to the dog who brought people together simply by being himself. At Mickey's Tavern, we carry on his legacy. Mickey believed in being wherever the people were. He loved good company, familiar faces, shared moments, and the simple joy of being together. That's exactly what Mickey's Tavern is about-family, friends, neighbors, and the feeling of belonging.

Mickey may be gone, but his legend lives on in every laugh, every toast, and every warm gathering within these walls.

Welcome to Mickey's. Make yourself at home-Mickey wouldn't have it any other way.
